Life history biology and the implications of climate change. Ecological genetics and the changes in gene frequencies caused by environmental changes will feature heavily. The course will be taught by members of the ITN plus invited guests, including our advisor Prof. W. E. Bradshaw.

C5 Science policy within the EC and grant writing

Dedicated specialists from University of Leicester, Groningen and Queen Mary, will give us their views on writing successful EC grants and on EC science policy. This will be buttressed by Prof Till Roenneberg who ran the successful FP6 EUCLOCK consortium of > 30 institutions and SMEs. He will focus on grant writing for biological research in EC/national programmes and the role of the manager and the responsibilities of individual group leaders and their teams in the context of biological rhythm research (2 days).

Includes entrepreneurship within and outside science, personal skills, knowledge, motivation, personal qualities and characteristics, risk management, success factors, ethics and financial management, interview skills, CVs, equal opportunities, how to structure interviews, practise interviews etc. Specialist external speakers from several of the partner institutions and entrepreneurs will be invited to speak. (3 days).
