Feel like a real scientist by engaging in our activities.

INsecTIME researchers will be happy to talk you through their research topics and introduce you to the world of Insects, Genetics & Biological time.

A brief description is provided below of some of the activities which will be available on the day.

1) SPOT THE MUTANT
Have a closer look at normal fruit flies. Can you tell a female from a male?
Now observe our mutant flies. Can you spot the mutation?
Finally, learn about flies that look the same, but behave differently

2) BUGS vs HUMANS
Hear why we study insects. Be ready to be surprised at how similar humans are to flies

3) LOCUSTS
Have a look at these insects and at their neurons, and perform interactive behavioural tests

5) DO FLIES SLEEP?
Compare the fly 24 hour biological clock to the human one

6) LARK OR OWL?
Take our test to find out if your biological clock makes you more like a Lark or an Owl.
Compare your score with that of 50,000 other individuals who have taken part in this research project

7) CLOCK AND THE WORLD CUP
Can flies help us predict who will win the 2014 World Cup? How will different teams be affected by the time zone?

8) PRINTED HUMAN GENOME
Have you ever wondered if you could get a printed copy of the human genome? GENIE have done exactly that. Take a look at the 130 book volumes which contain all the information it takes to make up one human body

8) LiveGene!
Learn about the new Educational programme developed by the Tauber lab. It brings genetics teaching to life by using live flies and wasps in the classroom. Read more.

…and more!
